Afternoon tea with sparkle

January 12, 2016

Afternoon tea would top my to-do-list any day, but our most recent trip was simply unforgettable. Buyagift treated us to their Champagne Afternoon Tea experience at the Grosvenor Hotel in London and it was the perfect start to our honeymoon.

Walking through the entrance into the lounge the surroundings were exquisite yet relaxed, we were welcomed warmly and seated quickly, with the menu and our tea blend choice expertly explained. After ordering we were promptly poured a glass of Champagne each, and a delicious mango cocktail amuse bouche was presented to us.

Light and refreshing it was the perfect start and an unexpected touch. A selection of sandwiches followed with some fantastic flavours. Not your traditional humdrum selection, the Coldwater Prawn and Spicy Avocado had a kick without being too overpowering.

We were offered a top up of sandwiches, and being more than a little bit greedy we eagerly accepted.

Next up were incredibly beautiful pastries. Imaginative and enticing each delicacy was petite and quite simply perfect. Again, as with the sandwiches, they were innovative rather than average afternoon tea fare. We visited just before Christmas, and the chef had clearly been feeling festive.

Almost impossible to pick a favourite, I think the pear and mulled wine tartlet just about had the edge for me… don’t hold me to that though, I’d happily try each and every delicacy again at any opportunity.

At this point we were starting to regret our second round of sandwiches. Feeling more than a little full we were presented with several beautiful scones, cream and jam. Being absolute troopers we managed one and they were delicious.

Throughout our afternoon tea our champagne was topped up, and we simply couldn’t fault the incredible service. Our waiter explained every element to us, seamlessly ensuring we had everything we needed.

Just before we left we were offered a cake box and told we could choose a slice each to take home. Despite being incredibly full we still couldn’t turn cake down and we each chose a slice to enjoy the next day.

Often afternoon tea can be style over substance, but both the delicacies and service on offer at the Grosvenor were flawless. Booking through Buyagift was easy, and after presenting our voucher on arrival we were completely spoilt.
It was the perfect way to start our honeymoon, and without a doubt the experience would be the perfect wedding gift. Saying that though I can’t think of an occasion it wouldn’t be the perfect gift for, or a couple who wouldn’t be over the moon to be treated to it.

With Valentines and Mother’s day on the horizon I’ll definitely be having a browse through Buyagift, they have some incredible experiences on offer, perfect for spoiling someone very special.
