The last few months have been tough to say the least. Our house sale went through, but it was nail biting to the very last minute. For anyone thinking of taking their first step on the property ladder definitely do it, but prepare yourself for hours chasing up your solicitor and potential heartbreak.
Sitting in our own home, it has all been worth it in the long run, albeit exhausting. Thankfully buyagift came to the rescue and sent my Mum and me on a relaxing Champneys spa day for two.
Leaving my worries at the door, we were warmly welcomed by lovely staff who scheduled our day with precision, whisking us off to the changing rooms with fluffy robes and soft slippers. The reception itself was simply beautiful, paired with a lounge which wouldn’t be out of place in the Spring Summer Laura Ashley Catalogue.
Arriving early we were just in time for a light breakfast, with fresh juices, fruit and canapes on hand to start the day. Served in another lovely lounge, the setting couldn’t have been more serene
We then headed off for a particularly grueling couple of hours relaxing by the beautiful pool and Jacuzzi. Armed with books and magazines we were well prepared, fitting in a leisurely swim every so often.
Before we knew it lunchtime had arrived, and we found ourselves in a slightly surreal dining room where everyone was walking around in dressing gowns. No complaints here, perhaps more restaurants should consider a pyjama based dress-code!
The food was delicious, starting with a perfectly seasoned vegetable soup accompanied by fresh bread. The main course was a help yourself buffet style situation, with fresh salads, meat and fish on hand to choose from. Our helpful plates hinted at the ideal portions of carbs, protein and veg, encouraging us to make balanced healthy choices.
Our virtuous two courses were then followed by a decadent rice pudding dessert, topped with mixed red berries and coconut flakes.
After a little post-lunch recovery break it was time for our ‘Thalassotherapy’ treatment. Ushered into a separate mineral rich pool we were massaged by hydrotherapy jets. Easing cramps, aches and pains, the treatments also claims to increase the metabolism and improve circulation.
Taking it easy after our treatment we made the most of the lovely lounges on offer, indulging in a quick nap. Waking up we were surprised to see that time had flown by, and that it was already time for our Afternoon Tea.
Another fantastic meal, the sandwiches were tasty, partnered with smoked salmon topped savoury biscuits. Followed by whole-wheat scones, I really liked the clever twist on jam and cream, with the course paired with a much lighter fruit compote and crème fraiche.
It wouldn’t be afternoon tea without tiny cakes, and Champneys didn’t disappoint with their beautiful bakes. A selection of fruit tarts, chocolate and carrot cake, it was the perfect end to a wonderful day.
We enjoyed a quick look around the little shops, before returning to reception to check-out. While we were sad to leave our luxurious bubble, it was time to head home and back to the real world.
Captioned ‘Well-earned treat’ and ‘A little pick me up’ the Champneys products we see in the shops certainly reflect the ethos of the spa. Relaxing and rejuvenating, I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to visit again and I can’t think of a better present than the package we received from Buyagift. The perfect escape from the stresses of everyday life, their range of spa breaks are the ideal gift for friends and family in need of pampering.
