A Christmas gift guide for Hygge lovers

A Christmas gift guide for Hygge lovers

There has been no avoiding it this winter, the Danish love of Hygge has been embraced by the UK and it’s not difficult to see why. As the temperatures have plummeted the art of living cosily has become commonplace, and it’s a trend I’m more than happy to get on board with.

The perfect way to tell a friend they should be taking things easy, the following gifts are a must for any Christmas ‘Hygge hamper’

First things first, candles! Flickering and beautifully scented, a night in is not complete without a full of these beauties lit. This year’s Christmas collection from Yankee Candle could not be more festive. All is bright, festive cocktail and star anise & orange, each scent is cosy and welcoming.

Their small jars are the perfect size for our reindeer lantern, and when it’s lit there is no doubt that Christmas is on the way.

A bath is the perfect way to start a relaxing night in, and a few drops of Olverum oil is ideal for unwinding. Forgetting the stresses of the Christmas rush, a little bottle really goes a long way. The 125ml size will be enough for 25 baths, and you can pick up a bottle from stockists like Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Conran and online with House of Fraser.

A little extra luxury goes a long way, and as well as soft pyjamas I always tend to spritz a little perfume on after a bath (Is that weird of does anyone else do it?) For me, living well is doing the little things that make you happy, and perfume is a firm favourite of mine. I’d rather go out with makeup then forego my routine!

My latest find has been Michael Buble’s ‘By Invitation.’ Not normally one for celebrity ranges, this is my exception. Simple yet elegant, the fragrance is floral but not too sweet, musky but not too strong. Perfectly balanced I’ve been wearing this for both day and night, and of course for cosy evenings in!

The bottle is beautiful and it’s safe to say I’ll be looking out for future fragrances from Mr. Buble.

It wouldn’t be a cosy night in without a blanket to keep your toes warm, and I can’t think of a friend who wouldn’t welcome these super soft throws from Heat Holders. Making life warmer, their snuggle-up blankets come in a range of colours. I wouldn’t be without ours now, and it seems Ruby wouldn’t either!

Movie nights should always come with a range of snacks, and you really can’t go wrong with cheese and biscuits. Being pregnant I’m a little limited on the range of cheese I can enjoy, so the accompaniments are all the more important.

Pink peppercorn crackers from Peter’s Yard are the perfect addition to creamy Lancashire cheese, and this might be my second trimester palette but I can’t get enough of these cocktail gherkins from Opies for a sharp sweet kick.

While we’d normally enjoy a glass of red wine with a cheeseboard, but for me at least that is off the table for the time being. Instead I’ve been enjoying a few ‘Mocktails’ thanks to James White and their beautiful fruit juices. Nothing more complicated than ice, a few cherries and some ginger beer, it’s the little few extras that make me feel like I’m not missing out on all that much.

As you can see from our recent advent post I’ve got quite the sweet tooth, and a cosy night in is not complete without some chocolate to nibble on. These boxes from Mars are jam-packed with the opportunity to indulge, and fantastic value for just £13. We tried the Malteser and M&M versions, and couldn’t believe how much chocolate was squeezed into each box.

With our log burning fire and country cottage we couldn’t be better placed to live the Hygge lifestyle, and having a baby on the way is the perfect excuse to take things a little easier. I couldn’t think of better gifts than ones which encourage you to take things a little easier!
