We’ve spent the start of December full of bugs, and haven’t quite felt up to putting our Christmas tree up until this week. Having missed out on the festive fun that comes with the first couple of weeks of the month we decided to make more of an occasion out of putting our tree up.
Our first tree in our first home, we had to make sure it was as perfect as possible. We measured up in advance, and it was well worth taking our tape measure along with us. I’m sure I drove my husband quite mad scrutinising every branch of every tree before finally settling on one….but it was so worth it!
Very kindly we’d been sent some treats from Bill’s, making sure we were well fed while we got to work decorating. The two boxes are decorated in beautiful gold print, with one packed with all things savoury and the other bound to satisfy any sweet tooth.
Filled with chutneys our first box was the perfect way to make a cheese board all the more special. Tomato, Red onion marmalade and Mango chutney, every jar was packed with flavour.
Crammed with all sorts of chocolate treats, our second box also included a beautiful pillar candle to make our evening even cosier. Christmas is the perfect time to indulge in something sweet and Bill’s have made that easy with their grownup version of a selection box.
If that wasn’t enough of a sugar hit, Bill’s also sent us a lovely tin full of Amaretti biscuits. Not often a child’s first choice, these were an absolute favourite of mine growing up. An instant dose of nostalgia, we’ll be saving these beauties for Christmas day with coffee.
Un-boxing our decorations is a trip down memory lane. Over the few last years we’ve bought something for the Christmas tree to mark each occasion, moving in together, our engagement and more recently our wedding. What a few years it’s been…
We’ve also got this beautiful antique decoration, once my grandmas. A brass teddy jack-in-the-box, I remember putting this on our family trees growing up. It seems all the more meaningful this year with our first baby on the way.
I love decorating our tree, and I instantly feel all the more festive once it’s lit up in our lounge. With just a week to go until Christmas eve we’re just in time!
