Traditional toys for tots

December 11, 2016

A few years ago we didn’t buy for anyone under the age of twenty at Christmas, but over the last couple of years we’ve found ourselves buying toys for the new additions in our family.

With our own baby on the way we’ve been excitedly thinking what we’ll be getting our little boy next year, and imagining how our Christmas morning will change (I’m guessing we can say goodbye to our lie-ins….)

I’ve always loved more traditional toys, and while our family is still young I’m hoping we’ll get away with catering to our tastes rather than theirs… for at least a little while.

We couldn’t resist this teddy, which unbelievably is from WHSmith. Created to celebrate Save the Children’s Christmas on Friday 16th December, WHSmith are stocking two very special Christmas Jumper Day bears called Benji and Bruno. The bears, who look very fetching in their very own festive knits, will be sold in stores across the UK and online. Crazily they retail for just £4.99 with £1 being donated to Save the Children for every bear sold.

Benji, with his little green jumper, has joined us for Christmas and he couldn’t be cuter. For just under five pounds he’d be a really lovely gift for any children in your family, in turn supporting Save the Children.

Our baby’s room is going to be yellow and grey, and this little push and pull along elephant from Hape matches perfectly. Not just for display, this little fella is made from solid maple and finished with child-safe paint, the surfaces also wipe clean which I’m sure is bound to come in handy….

With a zebra, crocodile and giraffe also available in this collection you’ll almost have a full zoo on hand.

At the moment our home is toy free and tidy… and I’m sure that will soon change as soon as baby arrives. With cute traditional toys like this for the first year or so I’m sure it will be a change we’ll happily embrace.
