It’s safe to say the weather has took a turn for the chillier, and with that in mind it’s the season to wrap up warm and embrace the great indoors. Autumn seems to have descended in just days this year, and in a few short weeks we’ve gone from BBQ weather to cosying up in front of the fire.
Rather than feeling trapped by the bad weather, I’ve decided to wholeheartedly embrace this change in season. Taking inspiration from a few different trends, here’s a few ideas to help you keep warm, snug and cosy as the temperature continues to drop.
Inspired by Pantone’s greenery, bejewel your home with the beautiful emerald green trend of 2017, as collated in this Pinterest gallery. Put aside the pretty pastels of summer, and adorn your home in opulent colour. Velvet furniture and accessories are a great way to include this gorgeous colour in a more autumnal decor palette. Mix with other textures to create a gorgeous multi-layered look.

A wonderful way to embrace autumn, create your very own sanctuary. A space without technology, forget the home office and create a space devoted to relaxation. It can be anywhere you like, as long as it is an escape from the hassles of daily life. If your home is open plan you might want to consider internal bifold doors or similar to create an enclosed environment that serves its purpose.
Once you have your perfect space, accessorise as you like. Be sure to ensure a comfy chair and cushions, as well as cosy blankets. You might also want a small table with candles and anything else that ‘sets the mood’ as well as a holding basket for books, magazines. This tutorial explaining how to create your own meditation space will help get you started.
Set to be prolific across autumn/ winter 2017, colour blocking takes a few contrasting colours and then uses all of them to decorate a space. Ideally accentuated with a neutral, you can then add cushions, quilts, blankets, artwork, and anything you want in the colours you have chosen to colour block a space. This trend enables you to keep the look chic and modern at the same time.
I’m a big fan of chunky knits, and they are an absolute essential throughout the autumn and winter months! Adorn your sofa with big beautiful giant knit cushions and throws, ideal for snuggling up to in front of a film.
Not just a fabric based trend, this also means everything wicker is in. If you’re keen to keep things thrifty, head to your nearest car boot and bag yourself a fashionable bargain. I love to upcycle furniture finds, and chalk spray-paint is a really easy way to update pieces you’ve picked up for a few pounds.
It’s easy to feel a little gloomy as the evenings get darker and winter approaches, but taking inspiration from these autumnal trends can make sure you look forward to coming home after a tough day.
