It’s no secret that I love candles, and at this time of year I switch them round for festive scents, while decorating the house for Christmas. Normally I opt for lighter citrus fragrances, but once December hits I’m all for heavier spice based aromas.
As far as Christmas candles go, Yankee Candles are a firm favourite of mine. When burnt for a few hours, a candle in our lounge can fill the entire house with its fragrance.
This year’s festive collection couldn’t be more suited to our tiny cottage, with two classic fragrances and one new addition to the range. We’ve been very kindly sent the trio to try out, on hand to enjoy in the run up to Christmas.
‘Christmas Magic’ is everything you’d want from a yuletide candle. A classic fragrance with top notes of bergamot and Mandarin, alongside pine, incense and cedarwood. We lit the jar while decorating our tree, and the scent matched the occasion perfectly.
I must admit ‘Spiced White Cocoa’ isn’t a fragrance I’d normally choose. Expecting something sickly sweet, I was pleasantly surprised. The nutmeg adds a hint of spice to what would have otherwise been a bit too saccharine, leaving you with an indulgent and cosy scent.
The latest addition to the Yankee Candle Christmas range, ‘Crackling Wood Fire’ has to be my favourite of the three. Based on a warm cedarwood fire, the fragrance is built with notes of nutmeg, myrhh, cinnamon, amber, sandalwood and incense. Not overtly festive, the spices aren’t overwhelming, but just a pleasant background note. Winter in a nutshell, lighting this candle perfectly sets the tone for an evening accompanied by a crackling log fire.
Whether you are treating yourself or a friend, a Yankee Candle is the perfect partner to a cosy winter night in. Matched with a cosy blanket, a good film, and a hot drink, one things for certain….staying in really is the new going out.
