The Christmas Tag

The Christmas Tag

There’s a week to go until Christmas Eve, and I can’t believe how quickly December is flying by. It’s our baby boy’s first Christmas, so when I was tagged by the fantastic Lyndsay of Fizzy Peaches to answer some festive questions, I thought it would be a lovely way to record exactly how we are celebrating this year.

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

I’m going to have to echo Lyndsay here as it absolutely must be Elf! We watch it every year, more often that not on Christmas morning itself.

We’ve watched few other festive films already this year, The Snowman, Love Actually and The Grinch. I’m sure there will be a few more to come over the next week!

Have you ever had a white Christmas?

I think we have once, but perhaps it was more of a frosty than snowy Christmas? I can’t really remember, but I know we did get a snowy April last year!

Where do you usually spend your holiday?

Last Christmas, with me being five months pregnant, everyone came to us.

It was lovely to celebrate Christmas in our own home for the first time, but this year we’ll be spending it at my parent’s house, with my husband’s family coming to join us for Christmas day.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?

Without a doubt, it has to be ‘Driving home for Christmas’ Once I’d left home, my Dad would come to pick me up to bring me home for the holidays, and without fail he’d have that song playing in the car.

Do you open any presents on Christmas eve?

Definitely not, presents are for Christmas Day!

We will, however, be having a Christmas Eve Box for Harry. It’s a new tradition for our little family, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Ermmm Dasher, Dancer, Comet and Blitzen, then Donner, Cupid, Prancer and Vixen. I’m not sure that’s the right order from the rhyme, but it’s pretty close….
Oh and Rudolph, can’t forget Rudolph!

What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

It’s a bit of a strange one, but as a family we all watch one of the Die Hard films, with my Dad, Brother and Husband all wearing the clichéd vests.

This year our baby boy will be wearing his own tiny sleeveless vest, and joining in on the annual photo… I’m not sure if he’ll be awake long enough to watch the film with us though!

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

We have a real tree, and make an occasion out of going to choose and decorate it.

Harry hasn’t started crawling yet, so thankfully we haven’t had to worry about him trying to grab the branches and baubles.

What’s your favourite holiday food/treat/sweet?

What isn’t amongst my favourites would be quicker to answer!

Christmas cake is up there, but I also love Christmas dinner sandwiches. Turkey, cranberry sauce, bread sauce, gravy, stuffing, and maybe even a few pigs in blankets, I’d be gutted if we didn’t have any leftovers.

Be honest. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

I love giving gifts, and spend ages pondering over what to get friends and family. It’s a little scary receiving gifts, and I worry if my reaction to opening them is being scrutinised.

What’s the best Christmas present you’ve ever received?

This is a tricky one, as my family are such great gift givers.

I’m not sure if this counts, but last year my husband got me a Christmas card from my baby bump, writing it as if it was from our little one. It was so unexpected, and such a lovely thought, it’s the best card I’ve ever received.

What’s your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

I love Christmas at home, and I really wouldn’t want to be anywhere else on Christmas Day.

But if I could be anywhere else in the run up to Christmas, I imagine New York would be pretty spectacular.

Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?

This really depends if I’m in a rush or not. Trying to be organised, this year I have wrapped up as I’ve bought presents, and that seems to have improved the quality of my wrapping skills.

What’s your most memorable Christmas memory?

I remember my parents taking us to see our Aunt and Uncle and their family on Christmas day. It takes a couple of hours for us to get there, and we only realised in the last fifteen minutes where we were heading.

We only did it once, so it’s definitely one of our most memorable Christmas’

What made you realise the truth about Christmas?

Weirdly I can’t remember, I’ll have to ask my Mum what it was!

What makes the holidays special for you?

Definitely spending time together as a family, with everyone at home at the same time. Now we’re all grown-ups, we don’t see my brother and sister quite as often, so I’m really looking forward to seeing them.

And that’s all folks! For us, we’re looking forward to spending plenty of time with family and friends, and we can’t wait to share Harry’s first Christmas with them.

Here are the bloggers I’m tagging to take part, albeit they might not quite have time to this close to Christmas. Either way, they all have fantastic blogs, which are well worth reading if you have any free time between festivities.
