Project Porch: Making a small space useful

Fresh from the success of our pantry makeover, my attention has turned to our cluttered-up porch. Clever storage has made such a big difference to such a small space, so I’m keen to see if I can make the most of what really is the tiniest room our home has to offer.

Completely enclosed, it’s not on display to the outside world, but I’m guessing that’s the reason why we’ve let it become more of a storage space. Filled with cardboard boxes, and bits and bobs waiting for a trip to the tip, it’s definitely not used to it’s full potential.

Smaller than our pantry, there isn’t much we can do with it, but it would be nice to have a dedicated area for coats, bags, dog leads and shoes, as well as a little extra storage. Mainly, somewhere to leave our muddy boots after a wet and rainy dog walk, keeping the rest of the house clean and tidy.

Keen to invest in some functional furniture for the space, I’ve spotted a few options, all from Trade Furniture Company.

Perfectly in keeping with our country cottage aesthetic, these multi use pieces would make the most of the small space we have at our disposal. Providing much needed extra storage space, as well as somewhere to sit and put our boots on.

As our little one gets older, we’ll be needing space for his boots and coats, as well as ours. Fitting everything into our small cottage is becoming more and more of a challenge, so it’s crucial that we make the most of every inch of space we have.

Fingers crossed that by investing in quality furniture, perfectly tailored to our needs, that we won’t be bursting from the seams any time soon… we love our little cottage far too much to be moving on just yet!
