We’ve sold our house, but we haven’t found somewhere to move just yet… so, I thought it would be a good opportunity to pause and think consider exactly what we’re looking for in our next home.
Room to grow
While there are just the three of us at the moment, and of course the two dogs, we’re hoping one day our family will be a little bigger.
Our cottage has two bedrooms, and no options for expansion, so our main reason for moving is that we need more space. Three/four bedrooms and an extra living room would be ideal. I’d love to have a playroom for Harry, mainly so we can keep our lounge toy free!
An enclosed garden
This is a big one, and a non-negotiable for us. As with a lot of cottages, our garden has a gate at the bottom of it. Easily opened, we could never let the dogs be outside on their own, and Harry constantly tries to open and close it.
While it would be nice to have a slightly larger garden, the most important thing is that it is safe and secure for the dogs and Harry to spend time in.
While a garage would be ideal, a driveway would be a vast improvement on our current arrangement.
We currently park a few minutes walk from our house, which isn’t ideal with a toddler in tow. It would be so nice to be able to jump straight in the car from our own front door.
In the same village
We’ve already reserved Harry’s place at the local pre-school, and as I don’t drive, we need our new home to be in walking distance.
We love our little village, and we certainly wouldn’t want to leave it. We have everything we need on our doorstep and have family and friends nearby.
This is the hardest element of our search, as not very much comes up for sale in our village. Thankfully, we’ve already sold our house, so as soon as something suitable comes on the market we’re ready to make an offer!
I’m not sure if we’re being too fussy, but time will tell! We’re happy to take on a project, equally we’re open to somewhere we’d just need to move into, with a few tweaks to tailor it to our taste. Hopefully the perfect house will come on the market any day now…
